Original Item: Only One Available. Pre-WWII French Uniform Coat, sometimes referred to the “New Model” or M-1936 Coat. Similar to the uniform worn by Tiraulliers, this was essentially a shortened Greatcoat type garment, which was the standard uniform for French Soldiers during WWI and WWII.

With the concept of more mobile and mechanized warfare in mind, this simplified, and most notably truncated, garment was developed. It featured a nine-button front, turnback cuffs, and a large collar with pointed lapels. This scarce model was only in use for a few years before the Blitzkreig of France in 1940.

Constructed of heavy brown wool, the coat is secured with nine buttons each bearing an anchor motif for French Marine Infantry. The lining shows several ink stamps, and two internal pockets. The lining itself is in decent condition, showing signs of honest wear and staining. The exterior of the coat shows some mothing here and there, as expected with an eighty year old garment.

French Pre-WWII uniforms are very difficult to obtain, especially on this side of the Atlantic. As large numbers of  French uniforms were captured, destroyed, or repurposed by the Germans, original unaltered uniforms are now hard to find. This is the first example of this scarce pattern we have ever had! Top this off with an adrian helmet and you will have an excellent start to a French WWII display!
